Zootherapy program at La Maison de la Sérénité

Zootherapy, or animal-assisted therapy, is a structured intervention recently offered to patients at La Maison. It aims to provide moments of relaxation, calm and joy. Animals have this magical power! Paulette, a little blue French bulldog, joined the La Maison team on May 19, 2023 and holds the position of ¨Partner in animal mediation ¨. She belongs to our Care Coordinator, Mrs. Caroline Soucy, who is certified in zootherapy.

Not having the recommended age of 2 years, in 2024-2025 to begin actual animal mediation interventions, Paulette continued her rigorous training throughout the year.

She did, however, make numerous animal visits to clients who requested them. In fact, 110 visits were made to rooms to socialize with patients at La Maison. These interactions enabled discussions on more delicate subjects, brought back memories of animals that had been part of the person’s life, and helped to soothe during certain treatments.

Paulette’s presence at La Maison is a great source of energy and contributes to the emotional well-being of everyone.

The arrival of Rémi!

We acquired a singing canary 2024 May as part of our zootherapy program. Rémi lives in a beautiful cage where toys and food are provided.

Last May, a new member joined La Maison’s animal mediation team. Rémi, a little yellow canary, has taken up residence in the large living room, much to the delight of all who pass by. Rémi brings us to life with his magnificent song. He reminds us of all the birds that come to feed at the outside feeders and visit our patients and families in the bedroom windows.

We’re delighted to offer this service which, while primarily intended for the patients we welcome, is also much appreciated by all our staff. Paulette and Rémi’s presence at La Maison is a great source of energy and contributes to the emotional well-being of everyone.
