How You Can Help Us!

Matching donation program in the workplace

Many businesses have set up a matching donation program that allows donors to double the value of their donation. Please get in touch with your company’s Human Resources Department for more information.

Recognition donations

Recognition donations (for a room, a living room, or a hall) allow La Maison to purchase patient equipment and material. The donation is $20,000 per year for a 5-year term. Installed at the room entrance is a recognition plaque with the name and logo of the company or donor.

Planned donation

A planned donation allows you to make your philanthropic aspirations a reality while maximizing fiscal and financial benefits. Considering the increasing number of patients who will need our services in the following years, your planned donation plays a significant role in ensuring the sustainability of La Maison.

We will be pleased to help you and your financial planner or legal counsel create the gift of a lifetime. Suppose you are interested in including a donation in your will or life insurance policy or in donating publicly traded securities. In that case, we invite you to contact Mrs. Ghislaine Reeves, Assistant to the Executive Director, at 450.936.4300 ext. 242 or admin@maison-serenite.ca.

Testamentary donations (or bequest)

  • A testamentary donation, also known as a planned donation, is a fundraising program that provides arrangements that are in the best interests of the registered organization and are appropriate to the donor’s personal, financial, and tax situation.
  • A testamentary donation, the most popular type of planned donation, can include cash, marketable securities, closed-end funds, real estate, or tangible personal property.

Advantages of a legacy gift or bequest:

  • You will increase the value of your estate since a testamentary bequest may allow a reduction in provincial and federal estate taxes.
  • A bequest can allow a person to leave a much more significant sum of money than they would have been able to during their lifetime.
  • Because the beneficiary designation is revocable, you maintain complete control over your assets during your lifetime.
  • In the year of death, your estate can claim donations equal to 100% of your net income for the current year and the year before death. There is no minimum threshold for a legacy donation.
In Memoriam donations

To honor the memory of a loved one and support palliative care provided with dignity, respect, and compassion. May this gesture of generosity and sympathy bring comfort in the thought that the donation will accompany life until the end. It is an act of charity! An In Memoriam donation is an act of generosity to show sympathy towards the family and loved ones of the departed, whether or not they have received care and services from La Maison de la Sérénité.

Non-cash donation

Non-cash donations include, in some cases, gift certificates and gift cards. These non-cash donations can also include works of art, equipment, titles, and cultural and environmentally sensitive assets. A contribution of services, i.e., time, skills, or efforts, is not property and therefore does not constitute a donation or non-cash donation that warrants an official donation receipt.

Donation of shares

A donated share is a non-cash gift. Suppose the donated share is listed on a designated stock exchange (one that is publicly traded). In that case, a charity can issue an official donation receipt for the gift’s fair market value on the date it was donated. If the share is not listed on a designated stock exchange, the deemed fair market value rules may apply.

We invite you to contact the administration at 450-936-4300, extension 242, or at admin@maison-serenite.ca. Our team will be happy to answer your questions and guide you through the transfer process. Thank you!

Monthly donation

There are advantages to making a monthly donation:

It is so simple! Make a decision that will have a significant impact. Divide your donation (tax-free) into 12 equal payments and know that monthly it supports a cause in which you believe. Monthly contributions are one of the most economical and environmentally friendly ways to give.

  • Easy and convenient contributions
  • Easier management of your budget
  • Possibility of stretching out your donation over several installments.

Once you become a monthly donor, you will receive an official tax receipt on February 28 of each year. These receipts are sent by mail unless you have an e-mail address registered with us, in which case you will receive it electronically.

I've spent my life performing: sports, studies, career. All these activities, which allowed me to realize my potential, had one thing in common: they were centered on me. With volunteering, I'm focused on others! I didn't learn until much later in my life that the well-being we're looking for is to be found when we devote ourselves to others, especially those who have become vulnerable through illness. Indeed, what could be more beautiful than helping one's fellow man, through small gestures, to enjoy a slightly more peaceful end to life? The altruistic love, compassion and kindness I show these people contribute to my happiness. That's why I give my time to La Maison de la Sérénité as a care volunteer with the attendants.

For the past three years, I have had the privilege of supporting La Maison de la Sérénité in organizing their annual Walk, “Marchons pour La Maison.” This partnership has allowed me to discover a deeply dedicated team, including the event coordinator, Valérie, and to witness the strength of this truly unique Maison.

I have had the opportunity to participate in the Walk, and each time, I have been moved by the emotions it evokes. You can feel the living memory of those accompanied with dignity, the love of families gathered together, and the deep gratitude toward the entire team. It is a tender and powerful moment, reflecting everything La Maison brings to its community.

Thank you to the entire team for these 15 years of compassion, presence, and humanity.

It is an honour to be able, in my way, to support your mission

"I've been a nursing assistant at La Maison de la Sérénité for two and a half years. Having worked in medical clinics, C.H.S.L.D.s, and home care, I can confirm that my work in palliative care makes me happy and fulfilled.''

I’m fortunate to work with a wonderful and competent team of professionals. Every day, we experience intense emotions, which makes me feel alive. Being able to accompany patients and their families is a privilege and an honor.

I do not take for granted to experience the last glances, smiles, words, and moments of these people’s lives. My job is partly to alleviate their pain with medication but also to be an active listener, to accompany, to teach, to reassure, to give tenderness, love, humor, and a great deal of humanity. It is a multidimensional role, and no day is the same as no human is the same. It all started when my father-in-law died. I was at the hospital with him and his family to accompany them and provide some support. Having never had to deal with the death of a loved one, I didn’t know what to expect. I was helpless in the face of the distress experienced by my partner and in-laws and in the face of the suffering of my father-in-law, who had died too quickly, too young, and in the worst of circumstances. My partner was angry, powerless, and destroyed by the loss of his father in such terrible conditions. When a nurse took him in her arms and said: “It’s okay, you can cry, just let yourself go,” I said to myself, “I want to be that nursing assistant! It was also at that moment that I realized the psychological after-effects of an end-of-life that takes place in distress and incomprehension among family members. I knew then that I wanted to accompany people and their families at the end of life. I wanted to be a beacon of hope and stability through this stage. It’s vital to ensure that patients leave comfortably and with dignity while simultaneously ensuring families can cherish a loving memory of this challenging ordeal. At La Maison, we are fortunate to carry out our mission in a calm and peaceful environment, surrounded by a generous nature. Each patient is unique and reminds us how fragile life is.
